World War II hero credited with sinking 11 enemy ships to get flyover

A P-3C Orion from Naval Air Station Whidbey Island will conduct a flyover at a memorial service for Capt. Ken Sanford over St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Port Townsend around 1:15 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19.
Sanford was a World War II hero who was awarded the Silver Star and numerous other awards. He was credited with sinking 11 enemy ships and several enemy aircraft during the war.
The P-3C Orion is a land-based, long-range, antisubmarine warfare patrol aircraft. Its missions include surveillance of the battlespace, either at sea or over land. Its long range and long loiter time have proved invaluable assets throughout the overseas contingency operation.
